Where a pedestrian crossing is needed but mains power is not available, trenching is not practical, or the location is temporary, SolTech’s Solar Traffic Light System provides a reliable, self-contained solution.
It operates the same way as a conventional pedestrian crossing system. When the push button is pressed (or the PIR sensor is triggered), a fully programmable sequence controls both vehicle and pedestrian signals to manage the crossing safely. No grid connection. No wired links between the two sides. The units on each side communicate wirelessly over a range of more than 100 metres.
Each component, including the signal heads, push buttons or PIR sensors, solar powerbanks, pedestrian signs, and optional road studs, operates as an independent wireless module. The system is designed on a solar regime calculated for the shortest day of the year at the installation site, ensuring a minimum autonomy of 72 hours without recharge. Australian Made.
Built for councils managing remote crossings, civil contractors on live sites, and any project where solar powered traffic signs are needed without the cost or disruption of running cable to a crossing.

OPERATIONAL MODES
Remote controllable selection of flashing dusk to dawn or constant 24 hour operation. Alternative modes of operation are available on request.
Australian Made and Owned
SolTech products are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Australia for safety, performance, and durability. This ensures premium quality control and reliable, contactable Australian based support. Every system is purpose-built for tough Australian environments, making SolTech a trusted choice for councils, contractors, and engineers nationwide.
Who is this product suited to?
The SolTech Solar Traffic Light System is used at crossings where mains power is unavailable, trenching is impractical, or the crossing location is temporary or remote:
Compliance and standards
Pedestrian crossing systems installed on or adjacent to public roads in Australia must comply with applicable Austroads pedestrian and traffic signal standards and state or territory road authority requirements. SolTech’s solar traffic light system is engineered to meet these requirements and can provide technical documentation to support council or road authority approvals.
The Solar Traffic Light System operates like a standard traffic light system. When the pedestrian button is pressed a programmable and timed sequence of events is initiated that controls the vehicular and pedestrian traffic to ensure the interaction between both is safe and efficient.
Yes, the Solar Traffic Light System if fully programmable from the built in interface. We have an operation model of the interface available to test program. Ask the team to share this with you
No, the Solar Traffic Light System is an entirely off grid solar system requiring no connection to the grid. There are also no wired connections between the system on either side of the crossing, each system is connected wirelessly with an operational distance of > 100Mtrs.
The word for this is “Autonomy”. We build the Solar Traffic Light System after confirming operational load the system will be under. We calculate how many times the system would be interacted with in 24 hours on the shortest day of the year to use as a base line. From there we use shadow mapping to evaluate the recharge capacity on this day to ensure we deliver a Solar Traffic Light System that carries a minimum of 72 hours autonomy with not recharge.
A solar pedestrian crossing system replicates the function of a mains-powered pedestrian crossing without any connection to the electricity grid. Each signal head and activation unit is independently solar powered and wirelessly connected to the others, removing the need for trenching or cabling between sides of the crossing.
SolTech solar traffic light systems are quote-based. Each system is configured based on site-specific requirements including location, solar analysis, operational load, and autonomy needs. Contact the team for a quote.
Solar powered traffic signs are road signs, pedestrian crossing systems, and warning devices that operate entirely on solar energy rather than mains power. They use solar panels and battery storage to run independently of the grid, making them suitable for remote locations, temporary installations, and sites where trenching is not practical. Solar LED traffic signs enhance visibility with high-intensity LEDs that attract driver attention in all light conditions. In Australia, solar powered traffic signs are used across councils, construction sites, mining operations, hospitals, and transport corridors where reliable off-grid signage is required.
We’re proud to deliver solutions that make a real difference. Don’t just take our word for it, hear directly from clients who have experienced the reliability, performance, and impact of our products and services. Their stories speak for themselves.
Excellent Service. There was an issue with a product (solar road markers) and they replaced the items straightaway. Couldn’t have asked for better service. Thank you. – Pauline Abela
Ethan and the team at SLD were extremely patient and helpful with my order of 7 large solar speed signs on 190kg [Steel] bases, being sent to Victoria for installation across my workplace, which is a public use space. Ethan answered many technical questions with ease, and assisted with troubleshooting, the shipping and delivery, assembly and changing the radar speed. Their accounts team adhered to my companies strict policies, and the project went live yesterday. Would recommend the company and products. Thank you Ethan, Scott and team. – Lisa Pettifer, Project Manager
We were receiving multiple reports of speeding in the village from our residents. After investigating the problem areas and delivering the solution, I can confidently say that the Solar Speed Signs have reduced the incidents of speeding in the village. – Deon Moran, Village Manager
We live in a gated lifestyle resort of 375 residents, we have narrow roadways and no foot paths so it’s a shared pedestrian/vehicle environment. The speed limit within the resort is 10kph, which despite numerous conventional signs was regularly exceeded by visitors and residents alike. We purchased the portable flashing sign from SLR and the change in driver behavior was apparent within a very short period. This is a cost-effective deterrent, and very easy to use and deploy, we are considering purchasing another. – Peter Lake
